Omega 3 Index
$295.00
What is the HS-Omega 3 Index:?
This test measures the amount of two very importatnt omega-3 fatty acids called EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) in a person's red blood cells, which reflects long-term intake of EPA and DHA. The higher the content of these fatty acids, the lower the risk of a a fatal heart attacks and dozens of other symptoms.
For the HS-Omega-3 Index, higher is better!
When the HS-Omega-3 Index is above 8% there is a 90% reduction in risk of sudden death, whereas an index less than 4% has the most risk. Omega 3 fatty acids influence enzyme and hormone systems throughout our entire body, and although they have gained attention primarily from their cardiovascualr benefits, they alleviate symptoms of dozens of other conditions as well. They are especially beneficial for reducing inflammation and regulating many biological processes affecting the immune, respiratory, reproductive and neurological systems among others.
How do Omega 3's help prevent a heart attack?
Omega 3's benefit the heart in many ways. One way is that Omega 3 fatty acids can prevent heart irregularities called arrhythmias, thus enabling the heart to start beating again, even after a heart attack.
What is the target range for the HS-Omega-3 Index?
8% and above is the target range which current research indicates is associated with the lowest risk for death from coronary heart disease. 8% is a typical reading for people in Janpan a country with one of the lowest rates of sudden cardiac death in the world. An index of 4% or less (which is common in the US) indicates the highest risk.
What can be done to correct an HS-Omega 3 Index?
Increase good quality EPA and DHA intake. If you test indicated your result is between 4% and 8% then increasing your intake by 1000mg a day is suggested. If your result is less than 4% then it is suggested that you increase your intake by 1000-3000mg per day.
If people are taking Omega 3 supplements, won't their Omega-3-Index be above 8%?
Not necessarily! There is no way to predict for anyone what their HS-Omega-3 Index will be just by knowing how much fish they eat or how many capsules they take.
Omega 6 to Omega 3 Ratio
The HS-Omega 3 Index will also tell a person the ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 fatty acids in their body. Omega-6 fatty acids can lead to inflammation while omega-3 fatty acids can reduce inflammation.
Arachidonic Acid (AA) to EPA Ratio
This is another indicator of the ratio or inflammatory to non-inflammatory fatty acids in the body,. The higher the ratio, the more inflammation is present which can cause pain and degenerative disease. An increase of Omega 6 or AA:EPA ratio contributes to several disease states.
Why Omega 3?
Cell membrane flexibility that is why
When a cell membrane is rigid, it does not work well. When it is flexible, the chemicals that run our body can move in and out of cells as needed, thus making the cells healthier since the materials they need are available to them. When the cells work well, the tissues work well and thus the whole system works well which leads to improved health.
Ex: When there is enough omega 3's they are absorbed into the cells of the heart, making their cell membranes flexible, but strong. Thus the heart and arteries are stronger and therefore the entire cardiovascular system benefits. Transfats on the other hand, when absorbed into the cell membrane makes them stiff and unable to do their job. Just like stiff joints prevent function, so do still cell membranes.
What are other things that can be benefited from Omega 3's?
ADHD, Alzheimer's. Arthritis, Autism, Auto Immune, Brain Injury, Cancer, Cholesterol, Chronic Fatigue, Depression, Diabetes, ED, Eye Health, Fertility, Gum Disease, Hypertension, Immunity, Inflammation, Insulin Resistance, Kidneys, Liver, Macular Degeneration, Metabolic Syndrome, Nervous System, Pain, Emotional Disorders, Telomeres
