WHAT IS OXIDATIVE STRESS?
Oxidative Stress is like our bodies rusting both inside and out. It is the same process which turns a cut apple brown or iron to rust. It causes aging and many of today's degenerative diseaeses.

Each cell has an energy producing mitochondria. As oxygen is used by the mitochondria to form energy the life, free radicals (toxins) can cause the cell to lose an electron which makes the cell unstable. If this free radical is not destroyed it starts to give off an electrical charge and can create more volatile free radicals to damage cell walls, vessell walls, proteins, fats, and even the DNA nucelus of our cells.

If these electrical charges are in the brain they can lead to Parkinson's or Alzheimers. If they are in the arteries they can cause heart disease and if they are in the joints they can cause arthritis.

It is very important to have enough antioxidants available to readily neutralize the number of free radicals in the body or oxidative stress occurs.

TEST SPECIFICS
The interaction of reactive oxygen species with DNA and RNA produces oxidation products of the base rings. DNA repair enzymes must remove the damaged bases in order to maintain viability.  Oxidation of guanosine produces 8-hydroxy-2'-deixyguanosine (8OHdG). The concentration of 80HdG in urine has been shown to be an accurate measure of the rate of polynucleotide oxidative damage. Elevated 8OHdG is a sign that antioxidant nutrient in take may need to be increased.  Toxicants and lifestyle stress factors may contribute to increased oxidative challenge.

Some of today's toxins which can lead to cell damage are: cell phones, microwaves, computers, poor eating habits, stress, environmental chemicals and pollutants.
